This is an LHaRGB attempt at M106, a galaxy that I've only imaged once previousy several years ago with a DSLR and 10" Meade LX200. This is my first image using my new Chroma LRGB filters. I had many issue with this attempt, much of which was to do with the very few clear skies seen in the UK for several months and those that were clear were mostly with a bright Moon nearby, or when that wasn't around a lot of high thin cloud causing stars to bloat. I ended up having to discard and reshoot all of the ~8 hours of LRGB data originally captuted when the Moon was up, so only the Ha data survived that cull.

I also found this a very challenging image to process, with the outer halo being much fainter than I realised, so getting a good transition to the background wasn't easy and probably not achieved. However, it is a significant step improvement on my old DSLR image of this target, so good to have that progress.

VersB - applied strong masks to the sharpening processes to try to reduce the very crunch look of the original - may have overdone it as this versions now looks very soft. I feel a V3 coming on.....

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
